Our Services
Everyone wants the best for their families land and enterprises, yet very often the actions taken on the ground are unintentionally working against the outcomes people hope to achieve. What we offer is clarity, coordination and alignment. We help stakeholders to:
-
Articulate the future they want
-
Understand which current practices are sending them in the opposite direction
-
Identify what changes are needed to transform that future
-
Understand and overcome the barriers that are standing in the way of that change taking place
Our work is based on a few simple but essential truths:
-
Livestock owners who share land must coordinate their grazing as a community, not as isolated individuals
-
Grazing must be planned, monitored and adjusted in line with ecological principles
-
Healthy soils create resilient grasslands
-
Resilient grasslands support both wildlife and high performing livestock herds
-
Productive livestock systems deliver more calves, higher milk yields, better market returns and lower losses.
These principles guide everything we do, from day to day management to advisory and training support.

Management
We are involved in a number of management projects where we take on the day to day running of our clients livestock, teams, grazing planning and ecological monitoring. Our approach usually starts with a full value chain assessment of current practices and procedures. From there we develop with you a strategic plan with budgets and clear financial, ecological and social outcome projections. We then set objectives and key results which we monitor and report on each quarter.
When we work with you it is not a True Range project. It is simply us helping you achieve your goals. Although we will normally place one of our team full time on site, we always work with your existing staff to empower and upskill them so that capacity grows within your organisation.
When we take on a management project we commit for the long haul. Because of our experience in the industry we are usually able to deliver immediate savings and noticeable improvements in productivity. We are flexible in how we are compensated, whether that is a monthly retainer, an equity arrangement or a blend of both.Due to the scale of what we are managing we are able to draw on the skills of our wider team across multiple locations — a level of support that would, in most cases, be unaffordable for a single property to employ on its own.
Consultancy
We provide consultancy services to a wide range of clients including commercial enterprises, associations, NGOs and governments. All of our work is shaped around the clients specific context and resources, and we often collaborate with our partners Sustain East Africa who bring conservation, investment funding and GIS analysis expertise that complements what we do.
Before taking on any consultancy assignment we make sure the goals of the client align with our beliefs and philosophy and that there is enough will, patience and resourcing to make the project succeed. Once that is clear we visit the location and meet the people responsible for day to day operations. After a thorough assessment of the land, enterprises and team we prepare a report that outlines what we have seen, the strategic direction we believe the project should take and the practical steps needed for implementation and monitoring. Depending on the location and nature of the project this often leads to longer term advisory or management support.
We also provide long-term advisory support for both NGOs and commercial entities. Under this model, you manage your operation while we offer strategic oversight, technical guidance, and periodic reviews to help you stay on track toward your objectives.

Ecological Monitoring
Monitoring is central to the success of any project. Without reliable data on ecological change we cannot make good management decisions. Many organisations understand financial accounting and have systems to support it, but very few have strong ecological monitoring systems in place, yet this is often more important in determining the success or failure of a landscape based enterprise.
We work with our partners at Catalyse, with whom we helped develop a simple but effective monitoring approach suited to African rangelands. This system evaluates key ecological indicators each year and tracks how they change based on management. Because Catalyse monitors a growing portfolio of properties across different soil types and climates, we are able to look at trends both positive and negative under a wide range of management regimes. This gives us the experience to advise our clients on how to manage for the outcomes they want.
We are also able to design training that fits the specific needs of our clients, ranging from more theoretical classroom-style sessions to practical, hands-on learning where you spend time out with the herders and livestock and learn directly from the land.
We also offer introductory field visits for new clients or interested parties, taking them around our work on partner properties that are happy to host and share their experience.
